Dadra and Nagar Haveli to focus on Tribal and Rural Tourism: The Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli (D&NH) which has 60 per cent of tribal population now plans to focus on promoting the destination through Tribal and Rural Tourism . The tourism department will develop a rural tourist complex at Randha where tourists can interact and stay with the tribal people and experience their daily lives and activities. The land for rural tourist complex has been identified and the work is expected to begin soon. Apart from this, the Union Territory also plans to cash on the Ecotourism segment, owing to the fact that 40 per cent of the destination is under forest cover. The tourism department will show case the wildlife options to tourists to develop the segment.
The tourism department has appointed Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to prepare a 20 year tourism plan, which will be projected to the Ministry of Tourism (MoT). The tourism department also plans to build a convention center at Luhari and a golf course at Lalvali under the PPP mode. The convention center will be build to cater to close to 2,000 people. The land for the projected 18 hole golf course has already been acquired. The golf course, which will incur an investment of Rs. 200 crore, will have facilities like a club, pool, entertainment facilities and high end residential area. The tourism department also plans to undertake projects such as Damanganga river front development, tourist hostel at Khanvel, tourist's bungalows and health center at Kanucha.
“The destination is very rich with tribal and rural culture . The Varli tribe comprises about 62 per cent, Kokna contributes about 16.85 per cent, Dhodia tribe amounts to 16.90 per cent and others are about 3.31 per cent. The rural tourist complex will be similar to a home stay concept,” said AK Singh, Collector and Director Tourism, Union Territory Administration of Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Adding further he said, “We are looking at developing the destination as an eco-tourist destination, and the plan is under way.”
